While there are many companies involved in
developing and producing microfluidic devices,
the three detailed in the right panel are
representative of companies TGroup considers
direct competition.
Large companies that develop and produce a
limited number of specificially designed
microfluidic devices are not considered direct
competition. Companies that maintain a large
or growing library of microfludic designs and
companies that can offer custom designed
microfluidic devices are companies TGroup will
be in direct competition with.

A-Line is a microfluidic company that produces custom microfluidic devices using a unique
tool free fabrication method Integrative Polymeric Platform (IPP). Their platform uses
acrylic and silicon based pressure sensitive adhesives to seal their devices. Using laser
cutting technology, microfluidic chips are typically manufactured in PMMA, Acetal and
other similar materials. This reduces their cost and results in quick turnaround times of
approximately 1-2 weeks. They have experience with developing microfluidic devices for
cell culturing, sample preparation, PCR’s, immunization and molecular assays.
Micronit is company that specializes in designing and producing microfluidic devices
according to customer’s specific designs and requirements. To ensure quality production
they maintain their own clean room facility, and leveraging specific partnerships utilize
innovative inexpensive technology such as 3D printing and additive manufacturing
techniques. They offer inexpensive custom designed devices, with turnaround times of
approximately 3-4 weeks.
Dolomite is a company that develops custom microfluidic devices and offers a catalogue
of specific chip designs. They specialize in highly precise manufacturing techniques such
as low temperature thermal bonding, can produce multilayer chips, and offer a large
variety of deposited coatings. They are capable of producing complex designs with
fabrication and delivery potentially within 4 weeks. Additionally they offer a unique
microfluidic 3D printer, The Fluidic Factory 3D Printer. It enables rapid prototyping
using COC, and can be used to produce manifolds and connectors in addition to
microfluidic chips.
TGroup is a recently formed company that is developing a modular microfluidic platform
and an inexpensive microfluidic chip fabrication method. The modular microfluidic
platform allows the end user to assemble complete microfluidic devices using an
intuitive pressure based sealing mechanism using individual microfluidic modules
ordered from our library of designs. The inexpensive microfluidic chip fabrication
method under development uses laser cutting technology and pressure based sealing
to create custom microfluidic devices rapidly and inexpensively without the use of
adhesives. Between these two platforms turnaround time is projected to be as little
as 1-2 weeks with minimum orders of as little as a single chip.
